About me

Hey y’all! I’m Candace. At my core, I’m a lover of Jesus, justice, and food. My passions, but most importantly my purpose, always come back to those three things.

Making desserts from scratch fills me with so much joy, it’s unbelievable. I discovered a passion for baking at 9 years old. At the same time, I discovered I had a dairy allergy. Baking is FULL of dairy products but giving it up wasn’t an option. In the two decades since, I’ve discovered and created ways to still make delicious desserts that I can consume. Navigating life dairy-free isn’t easy in a dairy-ful world BUT it’s doable and can even be fun. My journey to living my best dairy-free life and desire to help people combined to create my consultancy, Spilled Milk Channel.

“Do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly.” Micah 6:8 took on real meaning for me during law school. I wanted to be a lawyer from the time I was 8 years old (8-9 were impactful years for me!) because I wanted to change the world. However, in law school I learned that law is more often used to oppress rather than liberate. Instead of being discouraged by this reality, I used it to motivate me. Combining law with food, I specialized in agriculture law within the University of Florida Levin College of Law Environmental and Land Use Law Program (Go Gators!) and focused on issues affecting Black farmers.  As a Black lawyer, I am determined to use my legal education and skills to live out Micah 6:8.

After working at my alma mater to develop a new clinical practice area in environmental justice and community development, I moved to Washington, D.C. to continue my career in agricultural policy. Working in D.C. has connected me to a wealth of knowledge, resources, and perspectives that refine and increase my skills and understanding of law, policy, and society. As I continue in my purpose to help people and promote justice in the food system, I am excited to connect with you!
